Cracked Teeth Management

Cracked teeth are very common, particularly in teeth with large, older restorations or in patients who clench or grind.

The key is early identification.

Once a crack progresses, treatment options can become more limited, so a preventative, early-intervention approach is important.

Symptoms may include:

  • Pain when biting

  • Sensitivity to temperature

  • Intermittent discomfort

After diagnosis, management may involve:

  • Conservative bonded composite stabilisation

  • A ceramic onlay to reinforce the weakened area

  • Nightguard to reduce grinding forces

  • Monitoring if the crack is superficial and asymptomatic

The aim is to stabilise the tooth and reduce stress within it, allowing it to function comfortably for as long as possible.

What If I’m Unsure What I Need?

Many patients arrive unsure of what treatment is appropriate.

That is completely normal.

Treatment recommendations are always based on a comprehensive assessment. During your consultation, we explain findings clearly and outline options so you can make informed decisions without pressure.
