About Us

A Different Way of Thinking About Dentistry

At Melbourne Biomimetic Dental Centre, our philosophy is grounded in one core principle:

Preserve what nature designed.

Teeth aren’t static or lifeless. They flex, absorb force, and function as part of a living system that changes over time and is closely connected to your overall health.

Over the years, dentistry has often focused on replacing and covering problems as they arise, sometimes at the expense of healthy tooth structure. It can become a cycle, where each intervention, although well-intentioned, leads to further treatment down the track.

Our approach is a little different.

We take a more preventative and long-term view, looking not just at what’s happening today, but what that tooth needs in order to remain stable and functional for years to come. This is where a biomimetic approach becomes important, restoring teeth in a way that respects how they were originally designed to function

In practice, that means we focus on:

  • Careful diagnosis

  • Conservative preparation

  • Adhesive bonding techniques

  • Thoughtful, long-term planning

That shift in thinking sits behind everything we do, from a small bonded restoration through to more complex rehabilitation, and reflects our commitment to advanced dentistry that prioritises longevity, preservation, and whole-health outcomes.

Your First Appointment

Your first visit is not just a quick check.

Your first visit is a comprehensive assessment, where the aim is to understand your teeth as a whole, rather than focusing only on the immediate concern.

Dr Ewan Jones will begin by taking the time to listen, understanding your goals, your concerns, and your dental history. Many patients who come to see us are looking for a second opinion, are dealing with cracked or worn teeth, or simply want a clearer understanding of their long-term options.

Your assessment may include:

  • A full examination of each tooth

  • Periodontal (gum) evaluation

  • Bite and jaw joint assessment

  • Radiographs where clinically indicated

  • Clinical photographs for detailed analysis

Following your appointment, Ewan reviews everything carefully and prepares a structured treatment plan.

At your follow-up discussion, we talk through:

  • What we’ve found

  • Why it may have happened

  • The options available to you

  • The benefits and limitations of each

  • The sequence of care and associated fees

There’s no pressure to move forward.

Our role is simply to give you clarity, so you can make informed decisions about your care, with a focus on prevention, preservation, and long-term oral health.

A Structured, Thoughtful Process

We follow a clear, step-by-step process designed to reduce uncertainty and support better long-term outcomes.

  • Your first appointment is a detailed diagnostic visit.

We allow enough time to properly assess what’s happening, including:

    • A full tooth-by-tooth examination

    • Periodontal (gum) assessment

    • Bite and jaw joint evaluation

    • Radiographs where clinically indicated

    • Clinical photography for detailed analysis

We'll take the time to understand not just the current issue, but also your dental history, previous treatments, and what you’re hoping to achieve long term.

Many patients arrive after years of patchwork dentistry, often unsure of what the “right” next step is.

The purpose of this visit is to slow things down, take a preventative and whole-picture view, and gather the right information before making any decisions.

  • Once your assessment is complete, Dr Ewan Jones reviews all findings in detail and prepares a personalised treatment plan focused on long-term stability and prevention.

At your treatment planning appointment, we go through:

    • What we’ve found

    • Why it may have occurred

    • The condition of existing restorations

    • The options available to you

    • The benefits and limitations of each option

    • A proposed sequence of care

    • Associated fees

For many patients, treatment begins with one of our experienced dental hygienists, allowing us to assess gum health, monitor existing restorations, and address early signs of wear or inflammation before they progress.

    These appointments may include:

    • Periodontal (gum) assessment

    • Professional plaque and calculus removal

    • Monitoring restorations, wear and gum health

    • Personalised oral hygiene guidance

    • Preventative maintenance planning

This stage is designed to ensure treatment is approached in a careful, preventative and considered way, supporting long-term oral health and longevity.

  • Where treatment is needed, the goal is always to do what’s necessary, while preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible.

    We focus on:

    • Preserving healthy tooth structure

    • Using bonded, biomimetic restorative techniques

    • Reducing stress within the tooth

    • Avoiding unnecessary full-coverage treatments where possible

Some procedures, such as bonded composite restorations, can be completed in a single visit. Others, like ceramic inlays or onlays, are completed over two appointments to ensure accuracy and fit.

The intention is to restore it in a way that supports its natural function and contributes to long-term stability and longevity.

  • Long-term outcomes come from consistent monitoring and prevention.

Our hygiene team plays a key role in:

    • Maintaining gum health

    • Monitoring restorations

    • Identifying early changes

    • Supporting home care

These visits are an important part of a preventative approach, helping to protect your teeth, maintain your results, and support your overall oral health over time.

Meet the Team

Our Hygiene Team

Our hygienists bring decades of combined clinical experience and play an essential role in the long-term care of our patients. Their work extends far beyond routine cleaning appointments, focusing on prevention, periodontal health, early identification of changes, and supporting patients in maintaining healthy teeth and restorations over time.

Each appointment is intentionally thorough, allowing time for detailed assessment, personalised guidance, and ongoing monitoring. This continuity of care is an important part of the practice philosophy, helping patients build long-term relationships with a team that understands their history, their concerns, and the bigger picture of their oral health.

Their role is closely integrated with Dr Jones’ approach to biomimetic and preventative dentistry, ensuring patients receive consistent care that supports long-term oral health and stability.

Support Team

Behind every clinical appointment is a team dedicated to ensuring your experience is calm and organised.

From your first phone call to your treatment planning discussion, our team works to provide clarity and support at each stage.
