Why we have rebranded
By Ewan Jones
I’ve been practising dentistry for over three decades now, and the practice itself has been going for 21 years. That milestone feels significant as a point to reflect on what’s been built and where things are heading next.
As part of that, we’re entering a new chapter. Ewan Jones Dental is transitioning to Melbourne Biomimetic Dental Centre, alongside a new website and updated look for the practice. It’s a change that’s been evolving for some time, and 21 years felt like the right moment to make it clear.
Over the years, you start to see patterns. In practicing dentistry I’ve seen and treated up to 3 generations; that perspective changes how you approach dentistry. You also begin to understand how early decisions can shape future health, beyond dentistry. Once tooth structure is removed, it doesn’t come back and at MBDC we prioritise minimally invasive care when we can.
Earlier in my career, like many dentists, the focus was often on fixing what was in front of you. Over time, that thinking has shifted. It’s become more about what we’re preserving, what we’re trying to avoid, and how a decision made today will affect the tooth (and your health) in the long term.
I think patients are often looking for that, even if they don’t always articulate it directly. They want to feel that things have been considered properly, that there’s a plan in place, and that the goal isn’t just to solve the immediate problem, but to avoid unnecessary issues down the track.
Biomimetic dentistry is simply a way of describing that approach. It’s about working with the natural structure of the tooth, preserving what’s healthy and rebuilding in a way that supports how it’s designed to function. It’s something I’ve been moving towards for many years.
The rebrand isn’t really a change in philosophy. It’s a clearer reflection of how we practise and what we believe good dentistry should prioritise.
Looking ahead, that’s what I’d like the practice to continue to stand for - thoughtful, conservative dentistry that focuses on long-term health. The more we protect now, the more stability we can aim to maintain in the years ahead.
