My Practice is More Than Me, the Dentist

By Ewan Jones

When people think about a dental practice, they often imagine the dentist at the centre. But for me, our practice has never just been about one person. What makes the practice work is the team around me, our hygienists, our support staff, and the community of patients who continue to place their trust in us.

Our hygienists bring a wealth of expertise, focusing on prevention, education, and long-term care. Their work is not just about cleaning teeth, but about helping patients understand their oral health and feel confident in maintaining it at home. They play an essential role in ensuring that every patient’s care journey is consistent, thoughtful, and tailored to their needs.

Behind the scenes, our support team keeps everything running smoothly. They’re the first and last faces our patients see, and they make sure that every visit feels organised, calm, and cared for. From coordinating treatment plans and managing patient communication to ensuring the practice operates seamlessly day to day, their role is invaluable.

Our practice manager, in particular, is the glue that holds everything together. She ensures our systems are strong, our compliance is thorough, and our patients are supported from the moment they first contact us. Her leadership and attention to detail allow the rest of us to focus on what we do best, providing the highest standard of biomimetic dental care possible.

Every step we take as a team is shaped by biomimetic methodologies. By preserving natural tooth structure wherever possible, carefully layering restorative materials, and using adhesive techniques that mimic the tooth’s natural resilience, we’re redefining what a dental experience can look like. It’s this shared dedication to precision, respect for natural biology, and gentle care that unites us as a team.

Over the years, I’ve also had the privilege of caring for families across generations. I’ve seen children grow up, and now some of those children are bringing in families of their own. That continuity is something I deeply value. It’s a reminder that our practice isn’t just about procedures, it’s about long-term relationships, trust, and being part of people’s lives in a meaningful way.

At its heart, dentistry is about people. The relationships we build, the trust we earn, and the shared commitment to health and wellbeing are what make this work meaningful. The sense of community within our practice, between the team and our patients, is what turns a practice into something lasting.

This practice is more than me. It’s the hygienists who guide our patients through prevention and care. It’s the support team who keep our practice grounded and organised. It’s the patients who have been with us for years, and the new ones who choose to join our community. Together, that’s what makes this place what it is.
